Commissioner PESSI meets with APTMA delegation – Pakistan
LAHORE: Dr. Syed Bilal Haider, Commissioner of the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI), assured the Pakistan Textile Mills Association to extend all support and facilitation to workers and their employees .
He was speaking to the APTMA delegation led by Abdul Rahim Nasir, APTMA President, and including Hamid Zaman, Northern Zone President, Senior Vice President Kamran Arshad and General Secretary Raza Baqir here on Monday.
The Commissioner briefed the delegation on a series of initiatives and stated that the PESSI is an autonomous body under the administrative control adopted by the PESSI, including self-assessment, withdrawal of repeated visits by PESSI employees , selective audit by computerized selection and joint audits by PESSI, EOBI, labor etc.
The Commissioner informed the delegation of the various benefits provided by PESSI to workers, including medical coverage, cash benefits, sickness benefits, accident benefits, iddat benefits, maternity benefits, gratuities, invalidity pension, survivor’s pension, artificial parts, funeral allowance, financial aid for industrial workers and free education for the children of insured workers.
Speaking on this occasion, Rahim Nasir, President of APTMA, highlighted the problems encountered by members regarding the payment of PESSI dues arrears and the waiver of penalties. He proposed that the industry could be allowed to pay past debts in easy installments. He also requested a waiver of sentence as was extended by the Punjab government over the past year.
Rahim offered the aegis of APTMA to resolve outstanding issues with PESSI through negotiations and mutual dialogue with industry to avoid wasting time and energy on unnecessary litigation. .
Responding to APTMA’s requests, Commissioner PESSI assured to do his utmost for a prompt discharge of the unpaid liability of APTMA members and all other industrial sectors, willing to pay the unpaid dues.
On this occasion, Hamid Zaman, President APTMA North and Kamran Arshad, Senior Vice President APTMA briefed President PESSI on the role of the textile industry which contributes to the national treasury by earning valuable foreign currency through exports.
They said APTMA is the premier textile industry representing diverse interests across all sub-sectors of the textile and export industry chain and fully supports PESSI initiatives aimed at improving workers in the industry.
