Cumilla EPZ employee dies in collapsed warehouse roof

A worker died after the collapse of the roof pouring panel of a garment warehouse under construction in the Cumilla Export Processing Zone (EPZ).

The deceased has been identified as Josna Begum, 45, a resident of the Thira Pukur Par area in the south of Chartha, in the town of Cumilla.

Three other people were also injured in the incident which occurred at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at EPZ’s NASSA Garment.

Josna has been with NASSA Garment for a long time. She was at work on Saturday morning when suddenly the board in the clothing storage room collapsed.

Three others dodged the collapse avoiding serious injury, but Josna Begum was unable to escape.

Josna was taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital with serious injuries where the doctor on duty declared her dead.

Ripon, the son of the deceased’s sister, confirmed the death and said: “My aunt has a son. We don’t understand how it happened.

Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Police Station, OC Debashish Chowdhury, said: “I am there now. Four people were injured but the death has not yet been confirmed.

Cumilla EPZ chief executive Zillur Rahman confirmed the death saying it was an accident. Adequate compensation will be provided to the family of the deceased, he added.
