Mildred M. Precord, 103, of Lachine passed away peacefully on Friday September 10, 2021 at MediLodge in Hillman.
Mildred was born January 13, 1918 in Alpena, Michigan to the late John and Melvena (Couture) Anderson. Mildred has lived in Alpena County for life, with the exception of a brief period in Palmetto, Florida, and her winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. On July 9, 1939, Mildred married Leonard M. Precord at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Alpena. As a young woman, Mildred worked at Alpena Seed Company, where she sorted the seeds. During the war, Mildred worked at the Alpena Jacket Factory where she worked on jackets for use in WWII. During the war, Mildred continued to work and care for their home and two children, and also worked at the Alpena clothing factory.
In 1952, Mildred, along with her husband, Leonard, and her five children moved to Palmetto, Florida, where they owned the Palmetto Bar and Lounge. In 1955 the bar was sold and Mildred, Leonard and their family returned to the Alpena area, purchasing a farm on the M-32 in Herron. Mildred was later employed at Alpena General Hospital in housekeeping where she used her wonderful sewing techniques to mend sheets, pillow cases, curtains and anything else that needed fixing. . Later working in the laundry until retirement in 1980 after 25 years.
Shortly after their retirement, Mildred and Leonard bought an RV and traveled across the United States. Enjoy many good times and meet many old friends. Mildred was a member of the Champion Motor Home Club and the Good Sam Club. She spent winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, where she enjoyed potluck breakfasts and dinners, playing cards and dancing in their clubhouse. Mildred loved to hike the Superstition Mountains in Arizona, where she was a member of the Apache Junction Hiking Club.
Mildred spent her summers at their home in Herron, where she enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting friends and her many hobbies: knitting, sewing clothes for her grandchildren, macrame to name. only a few of his hobbies. Mildred eventually moved to Alpena and then to Lachine around 2005. Mildred continued with her expertise as a dressmaker making bridal and wedding attendant dresses for her daughters, suit jackets and other clothing. Mildred especially enjoyed family camping, sitting around the campfire telling stories, and getting together as a family in Alcona Park, Glennie, Michigan.
She is survived by two sons, Terrence (Marilyn), Leonard J., two daughters, Sondra (Robert) Taylor, Tana Heussner, a son-in-law, Gene Mills, 14 grandchildren, Kimberley (Stan) Beall, Christina (Frank) Varga, Terrence (Adam) Precord, Keeli (David) Dickmyer; Jeffery (Kelly) Mills, Catherine Sheldon, Clinton (Carol) Mills, Robert (Shelly) Taylor, Ryan (Lydia Sweetman) Taylor, Eric (Kristen) Precord, Todd (Rebecca) Precord, Stacey (Wayne) McEwen, Adam (Shannen) Heussner, Heather Dugan, 28 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces.
Her beloved husband of 76 years, Leonard Precord, two daughters, Mary Ann Precord, Maruis Mills, one son, Marvin Joseph, his daughter-in-law, Mary Kaye Atkinson Precord, one son-in-law, Michael Heussner, and two siblings.
The celebration of Mildred’s life will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2022. Arrangements are being made by Bannan Funeral Home.
