Rape in a moving bus in Savar: 5 remanded in custody
A Dhaka court on Saturday placed five men in pre-trial detention for three days in a case filed for the rape of a 26-year-old woman in a minibus in Nabinagar in Savar.
Senior Magistrate Shahzadi Tahmida adopted the order after Deputy Inspector Mohammad Ziaul Islam, also investigator of the case, brought the accused to court.
The court also recorded the confession of Sumon Mia, the driver of the minibus and also an accused.
The people in pre-trial detention are Md Ariyan 18, Md Saju, 20, Monowar Hossain 24, Sohag 25 and Saiful Islam 40.

Earlier on Friday evening, the woman, as she returned home with an acquaintance, was allegedly raped by six men in a minibus in Savar.
The six defendants, including the driver and the bus helper, were arrested after the woman sounded the alarm.
Sazzad Karim, head of the road police station, said on Saturday that the woman, a garment factory worker, had traveled to Manikganj from Chashara de Narayanganj on Friday morning.
In the evening, she boarded a bus bound for Narayanganj. When the bus arrived at Nabinagar in Ashulia, the woman and her acquaintance got off and boarded a minibus to reach Narayanganj.
“The six defendants were already on the bus. The driver suddenly stopped the bus near DC Nursery and tied the woman and her male acquaintance with a rope. Later they took turns raping her,” the CO said. .

However, the young girl showed her presence of mind and sounded the alarm. Hearing her screams, a police patrol team confronted the accused and saved her from their clutches. “All six have been arrested,” the officer said.
An FIR for rape was filed at the Ashulia police station against the accused, following a complaint from the woman.
“She was sent to the one-stop crisis center at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital,” the CO added.
