The victims, aged 21 and 18, are undergoing treatment at the unique crisis center at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College hospital, said Mohammad Saiful Alam, head of the Jamalganj police station.
According to the case statement, the victims were workers at a garment factory in the Kamrangirchar area of Dhaka and came to their village home before the current lockdown was imposed.
On information that their factory was reopening, they decided to go to Dhaka. So, they reached Jamalganj upazila sadar and hired a rickshaw to get to the boat dock.
Arriving at the wharf, they learned that the buses to Dhaka were not working and they decided to return with the same autorickshaw, being driven by Abul Kalam while his partner Alamgir was also by his side.
Meanwhile, they gave workers cold drinks to the victims on their way home and then allegedly raped them in the paddy field near the road.
Residents subsequently rescued the victims and took them to Jamalganj Hospital. Doctors referred the victims there to the OCC of the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College hospital.
The commander of the Jamalganj police station said the police were looking for the fugitive accused.
